Sand, Mandarmani and the Car

I don’t know whether the title is appropriate or not because the incident I am going to describe is just a ‘small’ hitch in what we enjoyed in our trip to shankarpur and mandarmani. But as I am choosing to focus on that incident it is very clear that the incident has significant amount of significance ..:P

“arrrrrre yarrr bore ho raha hun kgp me”… this line summarizes the frustration any one has to live through who by the most unfortunate connection of their fate were in kgp in the deserted summer. Its useless to describe the exact conditions of life , the frequency we used to take meals, or our sleep cycle…. But due to total irregularity in life we chose to go to somewhere to find some PEACE..

So we are at the sea. The moon, the water and the sand. Night seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. With us floating on the waves…playing football in the beach..swimming in the water the night passed. And we decided to move to shankarpur.

Now heres the fun fact. We were at mandarmani which is probably the only beach in India where driving in the beach is allowed. (after a few minutes we realized why the other beach authorities are so clever or may be the other way around!!). After starting the car with all four of us in it the wheels sank in the soft sand. We tried and tried with the best of our strength but could not pull it. It was like the gears were under the sand and wheels didn’t move while the engine is on.

After sometime when we are desperately seeking help some smiling faces showed up. With a smile of Buddha in their faces they offered to help but only for a “little” amount of money. We the iitians don’t loose hope easily. So we continued our effort with all kinds of new innovations regarding maximization of force to pull out the car from the sand. Half an hour later we surrendered…but now more and more smiling faces are enjoying our struggle for extraction (of the car obvsly).

This time they tripled the amount. What the…. we again went back to our muscles. They seemed to be happy with that… just one commented that the water is rising and if we fail then the car will be under water!!.. We stared at the water level…ya really its approaching near us. And if we take their help even later they will just triple the amount(the current offer ie, nine times the initial offer!!!)

We now understood the game they are playing with us. It’s a close ended trap as they are certain that we are too small in man power to pull the car. Immediately we sought their help. After some negotiation they agreed to maintain the current price(ie three times the initial offer). And our car was out in a minute. Later I thought its really a great idea to allow driving in the beach (specially when the sand is soo soft and the water level changes drastically). At least it provides great employment to the people living in the coastal area.

But the enjoyment in shankarpur was too great to make us forget about our stupidity. :)

One night @ the insti top

It's 2 in the morning. The sky is looking gorgeous with its bluish black color. The full moon is glowing like a silver plate. A perfect night for thinking of life and philosophy. It's the aura , the silence of the atmosphere that keeps mind very much conscious about own presence. The day was eventful. A very hot and sultry morning, cloudy at the noon, a blast of rain and storm in the evening and a clear night sky. There was cool breeze with the sound of one or two birds chattering. One thick white fume from a jet circled the moon and slowly was making a mysterious pattern in the body of the sky. Clouds were there but light and soft and were flying with the wind sometimes covering the moon by a semi opaque screen. It seemed the sky has a tint of rainbow colors around the moon (not sure rainbow comes in night or not!!).

There were rarely any one out in the streets. A perfect lonely night for the three on the roof top of the institute(thanks to the open windows of top floor). Ah what a feeling… gazing at the moon while she is buying a stairway to the heaven…. listening very hard the silence in the dark… looking for signs on the sky … and thinking of the shadows that are taller than us. It was just awesome experience.

A Handful of Love

This Saturday 2.2 Motion picture presents the short film completely made by iitans "A Handful of Love".I should first congratulate my friend Biswapati Sarkar for his true passion for making movies got a success.This is really inspiring, this again shows we iitans can produce independent films.. its not confined to film schools only, what it takes is love for films and a co-operating environment.

Background music is just awesome in this film.Beautiful combination of guitar and drums has given a special musical lift to many scenes of this film.'Bando'(Biswa Kalyan Rath)(who gave music and played Adonis) tu GOD hai bhai..

Biswapati and Meher has shown real patience in editing the film for every detail and the camera work is pretty much innovative(particularly the sequence of scenes and music just before the suicide is just unimaginable!!).And added to all of these there is Anup Bisnoi who in a word gave life to the story made the movie very believable.

This is a milestone in the kgp history.Lets see this film gets the acclaim that it deserves and continue to inspire more and more students to express there creativity.The Handful of Love can bring a handful of hope.

Exam Blues

Ohhhhhhh..Noooo.. the exam season comes again.It seems just a few days back
we gave mid sem.. and again now they attack.People cant really believe it
comes so fast.I don't even realised there was anything between the last exam
and this(because hardly I attended any class after that)..I don't think anybody did.

It is april.Spring.The season of endless treats and parties.Soo many number of
b'days,department farewells,the hall farewells,the interhall treats...everything piped
up in this last month of the season.And at last inevitably it comes to the damn
papers.

Ya the experience this sems is not any different than the other sems.Its all the
same..just the night before the exam we realise the size of the syllabus and be
really amazed by it.. then sudden rush for notes ..long queue at the xerox shop...
and a big night out.

Next day as expected drowsy in the exam hall(even more sleepy because of this heat
and humidity of kgp) the paper falls in front of the student.O the heartless
rapist!! . Fighting hard with his one night preparation the student gets lost..
admits defeat and tries to find some sleep(or get peace).Sitting in front of the
paper he blankly thinks of the futility of his life,.. of all the frustration of
not getting what he wanted and gets more spiritual...The mundane world does not
appeal to him any more .. he looses all the moh-maya ,all the temptation of life.

There rings the bell.And on the way back the thought of desperation comes to his
mind.He feels how miserable his life is how pathetic!!. And from the feeling of
despair the the determination rises..the will to show the world that he can also be
one of those nine-pointers..they do not have extraordinary brains or if they have he
also have it..It all get stored up for the next semester and gets stronger when the
grades come out.

But I know I have a long summer to forget all these.. all the post exam(better say
post grade) resolutions all will dry up..as it happened in last semester..Sem after
sem I see it does not make any difference.May be this is the essence of kgp life.We
can not hold up our determination for long time all because of the unstoppable wish
for 'peace'.. this ruins it all.

Ok,whatever.. lets hope things will not be any different this time also because if
than happens then kgp environmental stability will be at stake.. and finally it will
hamper my sustainable growth.. :)

The Power of Youth

This Sunday the kgp junta proved once again the classical power of youth.Its not all about the resignation of any official but it reminds about the history of student movement and the all the changes it brought about being the cradle of revolutions of all age. Here the situation was completely different than that of the time of Naxalite movement but both the movements represent the same indomitable spirit in different form of expression.

The students of IIT KGP are united and not like other colleges in Bengal there is no existence of unions here(no attack meant here).Which is why the people is all in all and proved there strength by resting the structure of the administration upside down in only three hours of protest.

Ya the death of one of our fellows is a heart breaking news to us.But this much organised protest was not due to that only cause.The issue triggered it and the all the accumulated anger was vented in the most generous manner as far as possible.It is well imaginable what would have happened if the protest was not in such a peaceful form.

The incident in the open house was just bound to follow the protest.It was most natural for the students to react like that after such a news.Now time will decide the future of this protest and the impact of it on the mentality of the administrations.

In the stupid statistics lab

endless hour in front of a computer sitting beside the

breezing air conditioner and doing absolutely nothing...

where else can it be ??

off course it is at in the department computer laboratory

in the mathematics department of iitkgp.i don't know on what

purpose this lab was given in our curriculum...i think

nobody knows ... better be clear about this..

a bunch of students usually feeling drowsy for the cool and

comfortable environment of the lab with a pair of mute and

dumb rassas usually the experience starts.prof comes:OK so

last class we (i doubt about the appropriateness of 'we')

have seen....blah blah and blah.. and at the end of this

when the class is desperately seeking sleep hearing the

voice of the prof(basic instinct!!) comes the problem

sheet..

prof leaves.on a fortunate day if there is net

connected(which usually is disconnected by the stupid

rassa) starts orkuting or chatting..

after one hour:"enough of everything!!!!!" i moved on to frightening animesh who trying to prove himself a 'studd' bunked the lab.

This is my first blog article and this is just to say a lot of thanks to you to open my blog. I dont know exactly on what purpose I am writing this or whether do I have a purpose at all or not but somehow this gives me a feeling of satisfaction(?) to publish it.
